Well for one thing, it depends on what your laptop needs are. A young professional who likes to game and edit videos has different needs compared to an 80 year old grandma who just wants to post on Facebook.
Generally speaking, if you wish to be picky about what you want in a laptop, you should plan to spend a good amount of money. While it's nice to have the latest and greatest laptop, you should be prepared to spend the big bucks if you wish to have it.
Speaking of storage space, most laptops come with at least 512GB worth of storage in 2026. If you're expected to work with large video files or you wish to game on your laptop, then you should go for at least 1TB worth of storage because these files tend to be fairly large.
And if you're expected to run a lot of programs? Aim for at least 16GB of RAM but 32GB is the optimal amount. In addition, you will likely want to have a good GPU and CPU.
